Andreas Pappas
Biographical Note
He plays the percussion, mostly the daouli (davul), the goblet drum, the frame drum (bendir), and the tambourine. He began his musical career in 1975, taking part in various traditional orchestras. Since 1983 he has been collaborating with ERT in both television and radio productions, playing music next to important Greek folk musicians.
He has participated in theatre and cinema recordings, in works of numerous artists. From 1994 to 1997 he was a member of the Greek Music State Orchestra, under the direction of Stavros Xarchakos. He has collaborated with the Athens Concert Hall in various productions and has taken part in Greek and international festivals (Womad, Athens Ethnic Jazz Festival etc).
In 1995 he released the album Krousta, in collaboration with Vangelis Karipis and Yiorgos Gevgelis, and in 1987, together with Petros Kourtis and Vangelis Karipis, he formed the percussion band 'Krotala', taking part in festivals and international musical events.
Since 2002 he has been collaborating with the οrchestra Estoudiantina Neas Ionias. In 2004 he represented Greece in the International Percussion Meeting in Tunis (MediMuses programme). Moreover, he participated in the music recordings of the opening ceremony of the Athens Olympic Games, and in 2008 in the traditional orchestra that represented Greece in the festivities for the Beijing Olympic Games.
He teaches traditional percussion at the Athens Conservatory.
