Amalia Papastefanou
Biographical Note
A singer of songs of the Dodecanese and Asia Minor. Amalia Christodoulaki was born in Rhodes to parents who had come from Asia Minor as refugees.
She started singing in the 1950s, at first for the state-own Rhodes Radio Station and later in Athens, for the National Radio Foundation (EIR), at the folk music section, where Domna Samiou worked.
In the 1960s, she recorded songs of the Dodecanese in 45 rpm discs with the Fidelity label, under the supervision of Domna Samiou.
She married the Greek-American Panagiotis Papastefanou, and in 1967, moved to the USA. There, she continued to sing at Greek venues and events.
