The summer season of classical Greek plays at the ancient theater of Epidavros starts tomorrow with the national Theatre's production of Aristophanes ‘The Birds’, directed by Alexis Solomos at 9:00 p.m. The performance will be repeated at the same time on Sunday. The work is a satire on the political and social morality of Ancient Athens which is brought out in the story of a citizen who leaves the city and takes his servant with him to settle in a heavenly kingdom of birds, whom he convinces of their superiority to both men and gods. The production is interesting from the point of view of the music: Domna Samiou, who is supervising the musical arrangements, is using folk music to accompany the play. Choreography is by Dora Tsatsou-Symeonidi and the scenery and costume designs are by Alekos Fasianos. Stelios Vokovic and Yannis Argyris interpret the leading roles. Also performing are Zervos, Biniaris, Capelis, Coucis and other National Theatre players.
