Lyrics

The snow, moré, the snow shines white
on the mountain tops
and the sun shines in the gullies.

That’s how, moré, that’s how our brave klephts shine.
The Kolokotronis clan, moré, who ne’er deign
to set foot upon the ground.

They eat their bread astride their steeds,
and mounted fight in battle.
They attend church in the saddle,
and from it worship God.
’Tis from their mount
and the priest’s hand they take the bread of Christ.
And mounted they offer gold
to the saints and our most Holy Virgin.
But to Our Lord, Our Jesus Christ, they offer up their arms.

Translated by Michael Eleftheriou

Original Lyrics
