and Constantinople encrusted splendid in her pearls.
Slumbers so that she’ll grow up with mother and with father,
her brother᾿ll be a trader, her husband an owner of ships.
Slumber for a frigate I’ve commissioned us to sail on,
her cargo will be silver, her cargo will be gold, will be pearls.

Νανούρισμα
Κοιμήσου και σου χάρισα τρία χωριά μεγάλα
τη Σμύρνη με τα λούλουδα, τη Χιο με τα καράβια
και την Κωσταντινούπολη με τα μαργαριτάρια.
Κοιμάται που να μου θραφεί, με μάνα και με κύρη
και αδερφό πραματευτή κι άντρα καραβοκύρη.
Κοιμήσου που παρήγγειλα φεργάδα να μας πάρει
μ’ ασήμι και με μάλαμα και με μαργαριτάρι.
