Lyrics

A horse-cart's passing by, raising clouds of dust,
pull up your little dress 'cause it will gather dust.
A horse-cart's passing by, the driver has a limp so step,
aside little girls 'cause he will run you over.
A horse-cart's passing by, a horse-cart full of sweepings,
so come out girls from Fassoulas1 even if clogs you're wearing.
I've told you once in Kassabas1, I've told you twice in Kordelio1
I've told you three times not to marry.
[And come to think of marriage, what good will come of it
you'll cook and laundry fill you drop and you'll be bored and sick of it].

Translated by Olia Petidou

1Fassoulas, Kassabas and Kordelio: provinces of the city of Smyrna, Asia Minor.

Original Lyrics
