μου ’λεγεν η μάνα μου, μάθε γιε μου γράμματα
μάθε γιε μου γράμματα, μάθε κοντυλίσμστα
μάθε κοντυλίσματα κι εγώ δεν την άκουσα

κι εγώ δεν την άκουσα μπιστικός εγίνηκα,
χίλια πρόβατα βοσκώ κι εβδομήντα δυο σκυλιά,
φλογερίτσαν έκοψα από κίτρο κι από ελιά
κι από κόκκινη μηλιά, κάθε πέτρα τη λαλώ,
κάθε κάστρο ακούγεται, άκουσε και μια κυρά,
μια κυρά βασίλισσα, - Ποιος είν’ κείνος που λαλεί;
- Είν’ ο γιος της ορφανής. - Σύρτε φέρτε τον εδώ,
να λαλάει στις πόρτες μας και στις πορτοπούλες μας,
να ξυπνάει τις βάγιες μας και τις βαγιοπούλες μας,
να σηκώνουνται ταχιά, να βυζαίνουν τα παιδιά,
να κινούν στην εργατιά με ψωμί και με κρομμύδι
και με λίγο βρομοτύρι.

Accompanied homophonic song. The tune is simple and repetitive, borne along by a rhythm whose linear character makes one think that this 'table song' must be one of the oldest in the repertory.
