Lyrics
The sea is humble and resigned, the wind disturbs its calm,
a mother bears and rears her child, a stranger will embrace it.
The sea waves pound upon the sand,
I love you, what am I to do?
The sea’s my mother, I have none other, the wave’s my dearest sister,
my sweetheart is the little fish that play around the shore.
Come, if I see you I’ll be well,
or else I’ll sicken and I’ll die.
The faithful seaman never fears the sea he knows and loves,
it is his mattress and his quilt, he falls asleep content.
I never weary of you, sea,
no matter how ill-used I am.
I walk alone the sea-waves, they don’t give way beneath me,
I’m not afraid of anyone, for I’m in love with you.
The sea is pounded by the wave
I love you, isn’t it a shame?
The sea does pound upon the sand,
I love you, what am I to do?

Original Lyrics
