Kostas Philippidis
Biographical Note
Born in 1950 in Kerasovo, a village near Konitsa, in the Ioannina Prefecture, Epirus. He plays the lute and is the brother of Nikos Philippidis.
Through his father, a local clarinetist, he became familiar and fond of traditional music. At the age of twelve, he started playing next to his father in various festivities of his village. Later, in Athens, he also studied the musical tradition of other parts of Greece.
He collaborated for five years with the theatre ‘Dora Stratou’ and with many other dance groups. He took part in concerts and traditional music festivals in Greece and abroad. He also participated in radio and television shows, as well as in album recordings, playing tunes from all over Greece. Since 1987 he is a regular partner of Domna Samiou, both in discography and in concerts.
