Lyrics
Why, Carnival is ended now, and Cheese-week’s past as well
and, gracious me, the Lenten fast, the Lenten fast’s with us.
The Lenten fast’s upon us now, a fast of seven weeks.
Come close to me, I will not come,
for I am young and am ashamed.
A welcome to the Lenten fast, with garlic and with lettuce,
a hearty welcome to the Spring, with all its many flowers.
It’s you I’m telling, listen well,
go fetch some paper, write it down.
Why, Carnival is ended now, what next can we expect.
Beseech the Lord our God we have a happy Easter.
Come on, let’s go where you suggest,
where birds are nesting busily.
Come over here to me, my love,
and soothe my heart that’s aching so.

Original Lyrics
